Guksi wooden cups or kuksa, are made by Jan A. Holmgren who lives in the arctic part of northern Norway. He is 100% self-taught and has been producing wooden cups for many years. The production is a hobby that is carried out in his own carpentry workshop. The cups are inspired by practical indigenous art from our Kven and Sami ancestors.

Most of the cups are made from birch burls, which is picked, stored and carefully assessed before being used. Antlers from moose and in some cases from reindeer are usually used as horn inserts in the handle. The braided strap used is from hand-tanned reindeer skin.
